Students need visual images to help them read and understand texts. Visual information can support reading and help make meaning of text. Focus on how to use images to build skills. This course will touch on the importance of focusing on the parallels between art and the writing process by combing mentor text with art history to inspire children to approach creative writing from a visual viewpoint. How do artist tell a story? This is standard is tested with the California state testing.

Visually literate people can read the intended meaning in a visual text, interpret the purpose and intended meaning, and evaluate the form, structure and features of the text.

Children tend to write with very little detail when they have no prewriting activity to stimulate their descriptive writing process and need different ideas and techniques to help enhance their descriptive and informative writing. The integration of art and visual imagery into the curriculum will help enhance student’s reasoning and problem-solving abilities, as well as assist them in adopting creative and social outlets for self- expression in writing.
